Just One Word

medium_81936274Those of you who have been reading No Rules for awhile know that each year I start the new year with 3 words to guide my priorities.

Last year they were: Inspire, Empower, Engage

In 2011 I chose: Vision, Passion, Commitment

For more on my reasons why, click HERE to last year’s post.

But instead of talking about the past and why I chose those words, let’s talk about results. In 2011, driven by my Vision, Passion, and Commitment, I strove to always put my readers first and give them what they wanted.

They repaid the favor by driving me to the #2 spot on the NYT bestseller list!

In 2012, I was inspired to try to engage and empower my readers even more. I released not one but two new Lucy Guardino FBI Thrillers driven solely by readers’ requests of “More Lucy, Please!”

My readers responded by buying over 1.2 million books in 14 months!

(What can I say, my readers ROCK!)

This year I tried and failed to come up with three words. Why? Because I kept coming back to the same one.

I am EXCITED by the prospects waiting for me and my readers in 2013. EXCITED to be releasing not one, but two new thrillers from St. Martins Minotaur. EXCITED to be releasing my first YA Thriller.

EXCITED that my readers rock so very much that together we raised $12,000 and six forensic scholarships through the Buy a Book, Make a Difference charity program. AND that we’ve already gotten a good start on 2013’s goal of doubling that thanks to readers sending SNAKE SKIN to the Amazon Top 20 over the holidays.

And I’m so very, very EXCITED to have the opportunity to thrill my readers with even more surprises in 2013, keeping to my goal of giving my readers stories that will delight and excite and make them jump for joy!

Thank you 2012 for helping me to focus so now everything I do is guided by just one word!

What’s your word?

Happy writing!

  1. My word is STRONGER. I’ve grown as a writer in 2012, my story got picked up in Chicken Soup For The Soul: Angels Among Us to be released 1/1/13, and an agent requested to read my fantasy novel Lunadar: Homeward Bound as soon as it’s complete. I feel I am on the “write” track and 2013 is looking pretty bright!

Thanks for all you do for the writing community!

  2. PERSEVERE – by showing up every day to write I finished my first novel. I’ll have it self-publised in the 1st QTR of 2013 (it’s with my editor now). My goal is to continue to write the best story I can – every day. And out of that to publish 2 novels in 2013.

    Happy New Year!

    • Excellent choice, Cynthia! The best advice for writers is Tim Allen’s (or Winston Churchill) “Never surrender, never quit!”
Congrats on finishing your first novel!
